"The hair is the richest ornament of women."~Martin Luther
We've all had this experience before. You go to the salon with a vision of a fabulous cut in mind, but when your stylist stops making his scissors fly, you want to put a bag over your head until your new cut grows out...
Before you sit in the hot seat again, here are some tips that'll help you get the hairdo you want.If you don't have a regular hair stylist it's probably a good idea to find one before you need a hair cut.
The key to avoiding a bad haircut? Going to an experienced hairstylist that makes you feel at ease. But finding a good hair salon (especially after moving to a new area) can be trickier than getting front row at a Hanson concert! Here are some things to look for when choosing a new salon:
3) LocationHair salons in malls are busy places, They get a lot of walk-ins needing a trim.Because of this they may not give you the attention that you need (and deserve).
Beware the salon in a run-down shopping center next to payday loan offices and that have bars on windows,or about 5 people sitting out front with a forty's in there hand.
A.The rent in these place is low,
B.Hello they have bars on the window
c.Drinking out side a salon in the middle of the day,and a forty really?
How close is it to where you live may not be the best indicator of a quality stylist, but it's a definite plus when you need to make an emergency appointment to get your hair done before a last min Hanson trip!
2) Pricing
While a great deal is always tempting, hair salons with cheap prices may be setting them so low because they can't compete with other nearby salons in either skill or service. On the other hand, high prices don't necessarily mean high quality – the salon may be inflating their rates to create the look of prestige.

Choose a salon with reasonable prices that you can afford, and be sure to budget for your stylist’s 15-20% tip (and yes, you should always tip the stylist if you’re happy with your cut).
3.) Cleanliness
Salon floors get freshly cut hair on them all the time, but if you notice clumps of hair around a chair that looks like its been there a hot min, that's not a good thing. The hairstylists' area should be free of crap everywhere and the styling tools and products you see should look clean and new or not like it came from there bathroom.
4) Services
A hair salon that can offer extensions, straightening treatments and other high-end professional services is often a sign of hairstylists who are up to date on the latest in hair care..Services like manicures, pedicures and waxing are a great bonus, as long as it’s clear that hairstyling is the salon’s focus. Side note:manicurists and the like should also receive a $1-$3 tip.

5) Customer Service
The biggest sign salon is quality is how much their employees seem to care about the salon and everything in it. This applies not only to your hairstylist, but the other stylists and employees too.

Side note:Google the salon and read there Reviews,Read what other clients have said,Read about the stylists on the Salon web site. What kinda of training do they have? How long They have been a stylist,do they look well kept..Why would u want someone who has ugly hair no makeup or for guys unsaved not in the cute way either, bleach stained clothes cutting your hair?
Now that you have a Salon you have picked a salon, the task of finding the right stylist is at hand...U know as well as I do a bad haircut takes as long to grow out as waiting for Taylor Hanson to come out of his tour bus after a show!4 ever!!!! So here are SIX Tips in finding a stylist that's right for you.....
1.Ask your friends and if you see someone around town with great hair ask about their stylist.I cant tell you how many times I have gotten referrals from someone stopping my clients in a public places to ask who does their hair.. Most people are flattered and more than happy to tell you.Ask for a stylist that specializes in caring for your hair type.
2. Look for a Listener. One common trait shared by all great hairstylists is the ability to listen to the client. While you may enjoy getting your hair done by Gossip girl, she will probably be too busy telling you about her love life, vacation, or children to listen to you and pay attention to your hair. Our job is being all about you.NOT the other way around.
3. Trendy Isn't Always Better. Sure, you may pay a lot to get your hair done at the newest ultra-chic swanky salon in town, but that does not guarantee that it's the best. Experience counts. According to Salon Today Magazine," Three out of five new salons go out of business in their first year. A salon that has been around for a while is a salon that knows how to please their clientele."
How long is awhile:I say 7 years or more.....
4.Make a consultation appointment in the salon.these should be free and take no more than 15mins.This give you a chance to feel the stylist out and see if you feel comfortable.
5.Go for a test drive by getting a shampoo and blow-dry and see how the stylist works with your hair.Is it still frizzy after they have finished. How long did the style last after you left? Did they tell you about what they used in your hair? How was the shampoo they gave you?How busy is the stylist?
Note:This is a inexpensive way of finding out if the stylist and salon are right for you.
Lest recap,You have found a salon you like,a stylist who makes you feel comfortable, they day is finally here!NOW WHAT???
Bring Pictures:
Nothing annoys a stylist more than when someone sits down in their chair and tries to explain the cut or color they want without a picture.. Imagine if someone said, "I want to look like Jennifer Aniston ." Well Jennifer Aniston short or long? via Friends ear or after brad pit?? Bring a picture or 2 or 3.
Be Careful About Saying, 'Do Whatever You Want'
"The beauty editor of 'O' magazine tells of the time a world-renowned hairstylist offered to do her hair and she let him do whatever he wanted since the cut was free. Oops. She realized afterwards that she really did want more control over her look." If you trust your stylist 100%, you can give your hair over to him or her to work their magic. But remember what ever you want can be expensive. So ask for the price of things up front. Also find out there idea of "what ever you want" before you leave with "holy shit""Really?Really?"
Decide what kind of haircut you want. No matter how good a hairdresser thinks they r may look, it might not be the right haircut for you..
Tell your stylist how you style your hair. If you never blow dry it, you're probably not going to get those flipped ends at home. Ask the stylist to rec. a style that looks good with the amount of time you're willing to spend on it every day.You live with it everyday,we don't,we only see it every 6 weeks....So be realistic in your expatiation.
Listen to your stylist. If the woman in your picture has longer hair than yours hair and you have short layers chances are the style isnt going to look the same.
If your stylist says, "No, I'm sorry, but there's no way I can make you look like jennifer Aniston the friends era," listen, because chances are you won't.

"You must make it perfectly clear to your stylist how far you're willing to go. Otherwise, someone will end up in tears," says NY stylist Erin Anderson in the May 2007 issue of Marie Claire." THATS THE LAST THING WE WANT!!!
choose a hairstyle which appeals to you and don't let yourself be influenced by other peoples. You know yourself better than anyone else so make your own choice because it is the only way you will love your new haircut.
Put your own style into the haircut. If you choose a haircut that is going to suit you and your features and you add a little bit of your own personality This will make the hairstyle more you.
Remember that hair grows back so there is no permanent damage. Only by taking risks and making changes you will be able to find the perfect hairstyle and stylist for you!!! Good Luck!!
