Quick Hair Trends update for 2011

Every year the style on hair changes. To those of us in the Hair world ,fashion trends tell us the hair trends .If the runway has strong lines in clothing then you'll see the new hair styles having blunt edges and clean lines. If everything is flowing patterns and soft lines and edges the same happens in hair.....So whats hot?2011

Whats IN----
While long hair is pretty, and flowing, and most of the time classic..NOT this year...SHORT is IN...
Jennifer Aniston and Victoria Beckham are two celebrities whose hairstyles have generated global trends.Yes they have a certain charm that is timeless

BUT  the lastest  pixie cut Victoria Beckham is currently sending the woman running to make appointments with their hairdressers....

This year, the most of  hair cut trends  take inspiration from mid length styles of the 70’s and short short short....

 The Cropped Bob-----

The cropped bob is extreme. It’s not quite a pixie crop nor a bob. Short all over, even with a heavily shortened blunt cut fringe, it’s can only be worn by those who ooze confidence. Attention grabbing, and if done right super feminine.......

PIXIE CUT!

In the past year the pixie cut has been brought back into the spotlight, being worn by world famous stars and models such as Alyssa Milano, Keira Knightley, Rihanna, Katie Holmes, Agyness Deyn, Elisha Cuthbert, Victoria Beckham and others..BUT it is Back with vengeance this year..God help us all....I never thought there would be a time when we would all go back to cutting our hair off again...Owell I should have known better.Style's repeat themselves.

Waved Bob

You'll see in the 2011 haircut that the bob is back for 2011,(did it ever leave?) though with a twist , waves. For those who want or already have a bob haircut the new look is such a great change with out having to chop everything off .It's My FAV this season.Soft romantic and so fem.

Fringe / bangs

In 2011 adding a bangs to the bob is hotter than two rabbits makin babies in a sock! It can be worn with nearly all of the year's hair colour and hair style trends. But when getting these fab bangs, make sure FRINGE not 8th grade.

Note:Look at all the Women's mags right now next time your in the grocery store.Youll see the covers oozing  with these trends........

Want 2 be a Hipster?

Before I get into the how to lets define excatly what a hipster is...:

"Hipsters are a subculture of men and women typically in their 20's and 30's that value independent thinking, counter-culture, progressive politics, an appreciation of art and indie-rock, creativity, intelligence, and witty banter.. Use a great deal of sarcasm, claim to be ironic.
Hipsters reject the culturally-ignorant attitudes of mainstream consumers, and are often seen wearing vintage and thrift store inspired fashions, tight-fitting jeans, old-school sneakers, and sometimes thick rimmed glasses.

There are 2 Kinds of hipsters.....( I know right)
Edgy cool:
Men and women sport similar  hair styles that include combinations of messy shag cuts and asymmetric side-swept bangs.(its called we got bored and cut it in the bathroom.) Such styles are often associated with the work of creative stylists at urban salons, and are usually too "edgy" for the sheltered mainstream salon(this is soo true! I honestly think that stylist started this hair look..Trust me we did....

The "Effortless Cool"Hipster ----

"Effortless cool" urban bohemian look of a hipster is best  in Urban Outfitters and American Apparel ads. They wear a mixture of  extremely tight jeans ,worn by men and women , pairing these with either a band or b-movie t shirt and a plaid shirt/v-neck and a cardigan along with Nike hi-tops/Vans/Keds. Females often wear retro style dresses and racerback tank tops without bras...(with out bras....Yeah Im gonna have to pass on that one..thxs)...
They Both enjoys indie music, a good cup of coffee or tea, vintage shopping. Also enjoys local acoustic band shows, and enjoys indie flicks or foreign films with subtitles(why I dunno.I mean who wants to have to read durning a movie?duh its a movie you watch it...ok(valley girl)
They are snobbish (thats a under statement) about their music and political affiliations, and enjoy books, traveling and culture all together. ),

Their look is usually unshaven, unkept shaggy hair , retro sneakers sometimes with no laces.(until they fall on their asses then the laces go back in as they should) They love to talk about philosophy, music, politics, art, etc. (the boring crap on TV)(history channel, cnn, aka old people shows)

After that long in depth Hipster definition...Ironic?

How can you achieve the look...

The first thing to learn is that anything goes with anything.matching same color is a example ( White shirt with white jeans...so your gonna look like you work at the cheescake factory and your on a break...)

This style, or anti-style should leave you looking mismatched yet, strangely adorable.Basically you spun around in your closet pointed  with your eyes closed ,with out having the morning coffee...
Then THAT"S the look)

Jeans should be tight fitting and of almost any color you can think of other than light blue. Black, neon or dark wash colors are perfect. This one I think is super hard to pull off cause well it is hard not to look well gay.Women can do the colors, guys be careful........
If you don’t feel like doing jeans, leggings are another great way to go. Couple it with a short, tight fitting skirt that has an interesting pattern at the bottom. Wearing big boots caps off the look perfectly.

Avoid being a wanna-be. To ensure that your T is hip enough, make sure if doesn't fall into any of these categories: dumb slogans/graphics (ladies, that means "princess" slogans and monkeys; men, that means those plain black t-shirts with white writing that think they are funnier than they really are),
eco-friendly/"go green" themes, political activism, and wanna-be vintage Ts (we all know you didn't attend the Olympics in 1980, so put away that t-shirt you bought at the mall last week) (for real)
(The Olsen Twins are the total package when it comes to "Cool hipster style done effortlessly ...)
Buy at vintage boutiques. They usually buy their wardrobe in that kind of store. You have to imitate the retro 1950s, 1960s, 1970s and even 1980s looks.

  • Accessories are a very important part of a hipster look. Wear large sized eyeglasses, hats, caps, colorful belts, sweat bands, gory wrist cuffs, etc.
  • You can wear a stylish thin scarf even in the warm climate.(Fashion know no temp..)

EASIEST 5 min Smokey eye ever!(Impossible to mess up!)

I love a good smokey eye! There are soo many ways to do one.BUT who has 1 hour to devote to just their eye shadow? Nope not me....well not hardly ever.) .SO I thought I would share a quick and simple way to get a beautiful smokey eye with out using a lot of products, brushes or time....."The 5min Smokey eye!"

Products used:
- Loreal volume collagen lash
- Estee Lauder coffee pencil
- Mac Rubenesque painpot
- Mac Mulch e/s
- Mac brushes: 239, 217
Step one:
Use ring finger (tends to give you the lightest touch ) apply a SMALL amount of Mac's Rubenesque paint pot..just dab on lid and whats left on finger lightly go up to brow bone....(do this on both eye lids)

Like in this picture--------->

TIP:use pinky finger to place under eye below lashes............

Step 2:
Take a Mac 239 like this->

sweep into the color Mulch e/s by mac with the 239 brush, gently tap off excess so you don't get fall out.

Step 3: pack color on the lid of your eye over the paint pot applied earlier to the crease.don't go above the crease of the eye.

Step 4: Now take Mac 217 a stiff dome shaped brush begin to blend out the edges above the crease using circle motions or over the rainbow motion with brush of back and forth.till hard line is gone.

Step 5: use the brush as a guide line to find where you shouldn't go down any further as  part of the outer 3ard  corner of the eye.start at tip of nose swing up brush to edge of eye where it hits the end of outta part of  your eye, that's where you stop.that way you know where you naturally should put the darker color.
Take more the Mulch color on the end of the 239,find spot in outer corner that you measured for earlier, pat a little more of the mulch color there to intensify the smokey look....
Just like this girl has done in this picture--> (it is up to you how much or how little color you want to place down)

step 6: Estee Lauder coffee pencil-------

smudge along lash line into the lashes....the idea is to have a liner that blends into the lashes.....line water line with same pencil....
Step 7: Apply fav  mascara ..........

Thats it.....super simple and shouldn't take longer than 5 mins!
Have fun!!!!

5 BS Facts About Beauty Everyone Thinks Are True.....

Why do we believe crazy beauty advice from unreliable sources? Why?Why I say?
Maybe because on some level we feel that they might know something we don't?Look I'm not saying that some of the things you hear from your sisters friends cousin Tracy couldn't be true.I'm saying there is a lot of misunderstood information out there about makeup.....So hopefully I can help set the record straight!Or just clarify that your sisters friends cousin Tracy was indeed right ;p

MYTH 1.....

You can do harm to your skin if you wear makeup every day?

BullS&*%.....
Makeup actually protects the skin from the sun, and from the crap blowing around in the air... Today's foundations and powders, even lip glosses offer sun protection – SPF 15 or higher to prevent skin discolorations or sunburns.

Myth 2: “Use Cocoa Butter to stop stretch marks”

A: YES Cocoa Butter helps soften the skin,BUT NOT for stretch marks. Fact is that our skin is in layers and stretch marks develop deep within these layers so in order to “eliminate” the marks you’ll need something a little deeper than good old cocoa butter. So sorry pregnant ladies who swear by it,but its probably that your really keeping hydrated or good genetics....

MYTH 3.
Red lipstick is not for everyone.False. Anyone can wear red lipstick, they just need to find the right red for them. Be cautious, though-reds that are too bright will make you look like a clown, and reds that are too dark will frankly, make you look like a hooker.Annnndddd end scene.

Myth4. Shaving will make your hair grow back thicker, quicker.

False! Shaving your legs or any where else (you know what i mean) will not make your hair grow back any thicker or darker. When you shave, you’re cutting the hair off on top of skin, not pulling it out from the root (can i just say ouch!). It may seem like stubble is thick and dark, because longer hair tapers off at the end, but it’s exactly the same thickness, as the hair you shaved to begin with.

Myth #5: COFFEE CAN CURE CELLULITE?
Supermodel of the 90s Cindy Crawford is said to be a fan of rubbing coffee grounds on her butt to keep jiggle free, and in fact, a lot of anti-cellulite products such as Shiseido's Body Creator Aromatic Sculpting Concentrate include caffeine. But, um,really? why? Scientists have proven that it can speed up cell metabolism, and that means it can help with the elimination of toxins which are thought to cause the problem in the first place. This one is half and half.We do know that caffeine can help, there is no latte cream--. Instead, try a combination of body brushing and regular massage using a cream containing active ingredients such as caffeine is likely to have the best results. And as a side note if rubbing coffee on my ass made it smooth then don't think for one sec i wouldn't be.I at least drink enough....but sadly that still doesn't count ;(

How To Find A Hairstylist & Get A Good Haircut

"The hair is the richest ornament of women."~Martin Luther

We've all had this experience before. You go to the salon with a vision of a fabulous cut in mind, but when your stylist stops making his scissors fly, you want to put a bag over your head until your new cut grows out...
Before you sit in the hot seat again, here are some tips that'll help you get the hairdo you want.

If you don't have a regular hair stylist it's probably a good idea to find one before you need a hair cut.
The first time you meet is the most difficult and the most important meeting. It will set the foundation for if you really want to let this person cut your hair..

Where to start:
The key to avoiding a bad haircut? Going to an experienced hairstylist that makes you feel at ease. But finding a good hair salon (especially after moving to a new area) can be trickier than getting front row at a Hanson concert! Here are some things to look for when choosing a new salon:

3)  Location
Hair salons in malls are busy places, They get a lot of  walk-ins needing a trim.Because of this they may not give you the attention that you need (and deserve).

Beware the salon in a run-down shopping center next to payday loan offices and that have bars on windows,or about 5 people sitting out front with a forty's in there hand.
A.The rent in these place is low,
B.Hello they have bars on the window
c.Drinking out side a salon in the middle of the day,and a forty really?

How close is it to where you live may not be the best indicator of a quality stylist, but it's a definite plus when you need to make an emergency appointment to get your hair done before a last min Hanson trip!

2)  Pricing
While a great deal is always tempting, hair salons with cheap prices may be setting them so low because they can't compete with other nearby salons in either skill or service. On the other hand, high prices don't necessarily mean high quality – the salon may be inflating their rates to create the look of prestige.

Choose a salon with reasonable prices that you can afford, and be sure to budget for your stylist’s 15-20% tip (and yes, you should always tip the stylist if you’re happy with your cut).

3.)  Cleanliness
Girl getting hair cut at a salon
Salon floors get  freshly cut hair on them all the time, but if you notice clumps of hair around a chair that looks like its been there a hot min, that's not a good thing. The hairstylists' area should be free of crap everywhere and the styling tools and products you see should look clean and new or not like it came from there bathroom.

4)  Services
A hair salon that can offer extensions, straightening treatments and other high-end professional services is often a sign of hairstylists who are up to date on the latest in hair care..Services like manicures, pedicures and waxing are a great bonus, as long as it’s clear that hairstyling is the salon’s  focus. Side note:manicurists and the like should also receive a $1-$3 tip.

5)  Customer Service
The biggest sign salon is quality is how much their employees seem to care about the salon and everything in it. This applies not only to your hairstylist, but the other stylists and employees too.

Side note:Google the salon and read there Reviews,Read what other clients have said,Read about the stylists on the Salon web site. What kinda of training do they have? How long They have been a stylist,do they look well kept..Why would u want someone who has ugly hair no makeup or for guys unsaved not in the cute way either, bleach stained clothes cutting your hair?

Now that you have a Salon you have picked a salon, the task of finding the right stylist is at hand...U know as well as I do a bad haircut takes as long to grow out as waiting for Taylor Hanson to come out of his tour bus after a show!4 ever!!!! So here are SIX Tips in finding a stylist that's right for you.....

1.Ask your friends and if you see someone around town with great hair ask about their stylist.I cant tell you how many times I have gotten referrals from someone stopping my clients in a public places to ask who does their hair..  Most people are flattered and more than happy to tell you.Ask for a stylist that specializes in caring for your hair type.

2. Look for a Listener. One common trait shared by all great hairstylists is the ability to listen to the client. While you may enjoy getting your hair done by Gossip girl, she will probably be too busy telling you about her love life, vacation, or children to listen to you and pay attention to your hair. Our job is being all about you.NOT the other way around.

3. Trendy Isn't Always Better. Sure, you may pay a lot to get your hair done at the newest ultra-chic swanky salon in town, but that does not guarantee that it's the best. Experience counts. According to Salon Today Magazine," Three out of five new salons go out of business in their first year. A salon that has been around for a while is a salon that knows how to please their clientele."
How long is awhile:I say 7 years or more.....
4.Make a consultation appointment in the salon.these should be free and take no more than 15mins.This give you a chance to feel the stylist out and see if you feel comfortable.

5.Go for a test drive by getting a shampoo and blow-dry and see how the stylist works with your hair.Is it still frizzy after they have finished. How long did the style last after you left? Did they tell you about what they used in your hair? How was the shampoo they gave you?How busy is the stylist?

Note:This is a inexpensive way of finding out if the stylist and salon are right for you.

Lest recap,You have found a salon you like,a stylist who makes you feel comfortable, they day is finally here!NOW WHAT???

Bring Pictures:
Nothing annoys a stylist more than when someone sits down in their chair and tries to explain the cut or color they want without a picture.. Imagine if someone said, "I want to look like Jennifer Aniston ." Well Jennifer Aniston short or long? via Friends ear or after brad pit?? Bring a picture or 2 or 3.

Be Careful About Saying, 'Do Whatever You Want'

"The beauty editor of 'O' magazine tells of the time a world-renowned hairstylist offered to do her hair and she let him do whatever he wanted since the cut was free. Oops. She realized afterwards that she really did want more control over her look."
If you trust your stylist 100%, you can give your hair over to him or her to work their magic. But remember what ever you want can be expensive. So ask for the price of things up front. Also find out there idea of "what ever you want" before you leave with "holy shit""Really?Really?"

Decide what kind of haircut you want. No matter how good a hairdresser thinks they r may look, it might not be the right haircut for you..

Tell your stylist how you style your hair. If you never blow dry it, you're probably not going to get those flipped ends at home. Ask the stylist to rec. a style that looks good with the amount of time you're willing to spend on it every day.You live with it everyday,we don't,we only see it every 6 weeks....So be realistic in your expatiation.

Listen to your stylist. If the woman in your picture has longer hair than yours hair and you have short layers chances are the style isnt going to look the same.
If your stylist says, "No, I'm sorry, but there's no way I can make you look like jennifer Aniston the friends era," listen, because chances are you won't.

"You must make it perfectly clear to your stylist how far you're willing to go. Otherwise, someone will end up in tears," says NY stylist Erin Anderson in the May 2007 issue of Marie Claire." THATS THE LAST THING WE WANT!!!

choose a hairstyle which appeals to you and don't let yourself be influenced by other peoples. You know yourself better than anyone else so make your own choice because it is the only way you will love your new haircut.

Put your own style into the haircut. If you choose a haircut that is going to suit you and your  features and you add a little bit of your own personality  This will make the hairstyle more you.

Remember that hair grows back so there is no permanent damage. Only by taking risks and making changes you will be able to find the perfect hairstyle and stylist for you!!! Good Luck!!
