Before I get into the how to lets define excatly what a hipster is...:
"Hipsters are a subculture of men and women typically in their 20's and 30's that value independent thinking, counter-culture, progressive politics, an appreciation of art and indie-rock, creativity, intelligence, and witty banter.. Use a great deal of sarcasm, claim to be ironic.
Hipsters reject the culturally-ignorant attitudes of mainstream consumers, and are often seen wearing vintage and thrift store inspired fashions, tight-fitting jeans, old-school sneakers, and sometimes thick rimmed glasses. There are 2 Kinds of hipsters.....( I know right)
Edgy cool:
Men and women sport similar hair styles that include combinations of messy shag cuts and asymmetric side-swept bangs.(its called we got bored and cut it in the bathroom.) Such styles are often associated with the work of creative stylists at urban salons, and are usually too "edgy" for the sheltered mainstream salon(this is soo true! I honestly think that stylist started this hair look..Trust me we did....The "Effortless Cool"Hipster ----
"Effortless cool" urban bohemian look of a hipster is best in Urban Outfitters and American Apparel ads. They wear a mixture of extremely tight jeans ,worn by men and women , pairing these with either a band or b-movie t shirt and a plaid shirt/v-neck and a cardigan along with Nike hi-tops/Vans/Keds. Females often wear retro style dresses and racerback tank tops without bras...(with out bras....Yeah Im gonna have to pass on that one..thxs)...
They Both enjoys indie music, a good cup of coffee or tea, vintage shopping. Also enjoys local acoustic band shows, and enjoys indie flicks or foreign films with subtitles(why I dunno.I mean who wants to have to read durning a movie?duh its a movie you watch it...ok(valley girl)
They are snobbish (thats a under statement) about their music and political affiliations, and enjoy books, traveling and culture all together. ),Their look is usually unshaven, unkept shaggy hair , retro sneakers sometimes with no laces.(until they fall on their asses then the laces go back in as they should) They love to talk about philosophy, music, politics, art, etc. (the boring crap on TV)(history channel, cnn, aka old people shows)
After that long in depth Hipster definition...Ironic?
How can you achieve the look...
The first thing to learn is that anything goes with anything.matching same color is a example ( White shirt with white jeans...so your gonna look like you work at the cheescake factory and your on a break...)
This style, or anti-style should leave you looking mismatched yet, strangely adorable.Basically you spun around in your closet pointed with your eyes closed ,with out having the morning coffee...
Then THAT"S the look)
Then THAT"S the look)
Jeans should be tight fitting and of almost any color you can think of other than light blue. Black, neon or dark wash colors are perfect. This one I think is super hard to pull off cause well it is hard not to look well gay.Women can do the colors, guys be careful........
If you don’t feel like doing jeans, leggings are another great way to go. Couple it with a short, tight fitting skirt that has an interesting pattern at the bottom. Wearing big boots caps off the look perfectly.
Avoid being a wanna-be. To ensure that your T is hip enough, make sure if doesn't fall into any of these categories: dumb slogans/graphics (ladies, that means "princess" slogans and monkeys; men, that means those plain black t-shirts with white writing that think they are funnier than they really are),
eco-friendly/"go green" themes, political activism, and wanna-be vintage Ts (we all know you didn't attend the Olympics in 1980, so put away that t-shirt you bought at the mall last week) (for real)
(The Olsen Twins are the total package when it comes to "Cool hipster style done effortlessly ...)
Buy at vintage boutiques. They usually buy their wardrobe in that kind of store. You have to imitate the retro 1950s, 1960s, 1970s and even 1980s looks.- Accessories are a very important part of a hipster look. Wear large sized eyeglasses, hats, caps, colorful belts, sweat bands, gory wrist cuffs, etc.
- You can wear a stylish thin scarf even in the warm climate.(Fashion know no temp..)
